Cumbria Association of Cricket Officials

It has been an extremely busy closed season for the ACO committee. We are planning to produce our first newsletter in May. Sally Phillips has volunteered to be its first editor, a brave woman! We plan to circulate this to clubs, schools, leagues as well as officials.

At our AGM, the committee members up for re-election were all willing to continue and were elected unopposed.

Training

The first ever ECB Level 1 course and exam was held at Penrith with 14 of the 17 candidates passing.

3 Refresher course are planned for Penrith, Barrow and Warton before the start of the season.

Many thanks to Bill Cook, Doug Beebe, Tim Gorst and Peter Robinson for their time and expertise in running the courses.

Sally Phillips is aiming to run a Level 2 Scorers course next close season.

Appointments

Cumbria ACO are now responsible for appointing umpires for early rounds of ECB knockout competitions where matches take place in Cumbria.

We have only one home fixture in the first round of the National Knockout competition, Kendal vs Ormskirk.

Brian Nixon and Albert D'Leny have been appointed.

Umpire Gradings and Classifications

All ACO umpires have now been given a grading and classification by the ECB. Their classification depends on the level at which they regularly umpire and gradings on their assessment during games. For umpires wishing to progress and have regular ECB appointments, assessments during games is now vital. The ACO is currently preparing proposals to present to the Cumbria leagues requesting captains to assess umpires who wish this for their future progress.
