England and Wales Cricket Trust Small Grant Scheme for 2012.

This is an ECB funding programme that is now in its second year and is available to all Clubmark accredited clubs and clubs that are registered and actively working towards it. Each County Cricket Board across the country has been allocated a finite pot of money to spread across these categories of clubs and so the purpose of this article is for me to outline to you the process that the Cumbria Cricket Ltd (CC Ltd) will be following this year in terms of allocating the funding.

However, before I detail how the scheme will be working in Cumbria for 2012, please see below some key messages regarding the scheme for 2012:

  • The Cumbria Cricket Ltd(CC Ltd) has been allocated a budget of £14,000 for the Small Grant Scheme.
  • Applicants can apply for grants between £200 (minimum) and £4,000 (maximum) and please note that a minimum of 50% partnership funding will be required.
  • The national deadline for applications to be processed is Friday 1st June 2012.
  • Clubs that were successful in receiving funding through the Small Grant Scheme in 2011 will not be eligible to apply for funding through the 2012 scheme (this was made clear in the 2011 Guidance Notes).
  • The application process has been changed from 2011 in order to reduce bureaucracy. This means that the application form is now a lot simpler and all clubs will be required to do is complete a simple application form and accompany it with a quote for submission to myself. A copy of the new application form is attached.

The Process for Cumbria Clubs wishing to apply to the EWCT Small Grants Scheme 2012

As I am sure you can appreciate, a figure of £14,000 to split between all Clubmark accredited and registered clubs is not a huge sum of money. In total we have 49 clubs that qualify for the scheme of which 6 received funding through the scheme last year, meaning there are 43 clubs that can access the funding in 2012. Clearly, this means that we are not going to be able to support huge projects, however we would like to ensure that we can support as many worthy projects as possible.

With this in mind it would be much appreciated if you could all read the guidance notes (link on right) and have a think about potential projects that your club may wish to put forward. When doing this please pay particular attention to the types of projects that are eligible and please consider the fact that Cumbria only has £14,000 to allocate across the whole of the county. After considering these things, if you have a project that you wish to put forward for consideration can you please complete the application form (link on right) and return to me with a quote by Friday 2nd March.

Following the 2nd March the CC Ltd will appoint an representative panel that will sit down and look through all of the applications that have been put forward in order to decide which projects will receive County Board support and will be submitted to ECB (please note that it is at the discretion of Cumbria Cricket Ltd as to which projects are put forward to ECB). CC Ltd will ensure that it undergoes this process by Friday 9th March and will feedback to all clubs regarding whether their projects have been submitted to ECB at this stage. Please note that even once projects have been submitted by the CC Ltd it is still down to ECB for final approval.

I hope this clear and understandable, essentially eligible clubs need to complete an application form for the Small Grant Scheme by Friday 2nd March at the latest. However, if you would like further clarification or wish to discuss anything relating to the scheme in more detail please don’t hesitate to get in touch,
